Easy Thanksgiving crafts for adults: Candy Centerpiece

Decorating for the holidays can be easy and fun if you make your centerpieces yourself. Craft activities are a great way to enjoy your family on the holiday and I’ve created easy Thanksgiving crafts that are fun for people of all ages. The instructions are easy to follow and you can have fun working with your loved ones. Below is a step-by-step guide to create your own Thanksgiving craft for adults.

Easy Thanksgiving crafts - DIY candy centerpiece

To make this Candy Bouquet you will need:

  • A container, like a mason jar
  • Thanksgiving scrapbooking paper or tissue paper
  • Twix bars, Thanksgiving tags (free printable included)
  • Wooden skewers
  • Floral foam or Styrofoam
  • 1/2" or 5/8" orange, red and brown satin ribbon
  • Low-temperature glue gun
  • Packing tape
  • Scissors and wire cutters

Step 1. Prepare a container for your Thanksgiving candy bouquet. We used an empty can (which held raisins before) to make this candy centerpiece.

You can use small, glass-canning jars from a dollar store or reuse empty pickle or coffee jars.

If you choose to use a plastic container, add some weight in the bottom to stabilize the container. You can do this by putting sand or rocks in a zip lock bag and placing that in the container.

Step 2. Prepare themed tissue paper or scrapbooking paper to wrap your container.

I decided to use orange cellophane with gold design on it. I reused a container (a Made in Nature Raisins canister) that has a picture on it. When I wrapped it with cellophane, you could still see the picture through the cellophane. To fix this, I wrapped the can with white paper first and then with cellophane.

You can secure scrapbooking paper / tissue paper / cellophane with double-sided tape or a regular glue stick.

Fold any extra paper that is above the top of the container inside the container.

Step 3. Insert a piece of floral foam into the container so it fits tightly inside.

You can buy floral foam at craft stores just for this project or you can buy big sheets of insulating foam at home improvement stores to save money.

In this case, I traced the shape of the can onto the foam and cut three discs, put them on top of each other, and secured them together with a skewer.

To disguise the foam, you can wrap it with tissue paper. I wrapped the top of the foam with orange tissue paper and secured it around the foam with a rubber band.

Step 4. Take your regular Twix chocolate bars. Hot glue 2 wooden skewers or lollipop sticks to the back of each bar as shown in the photo below. Use a low-temperature glue gun. Place clear packing tape over sticks with hot glue for additional security as Twix bars are quite heavy.

Step 5. Print out these free Happy Thanksgiving tags. Download the tags here.

We are going to insert these 'tag flowers' in between the 'Twix flowers'.

Attach wooden skewers to the back of each tag using clear packing tape.

Step 6. To make the bouquet look more festive, you can tie bows at the base of each ‘chocolate flower’ (the Twix bars) and ‘Happy Thanksgiving tag flower’. You can use 1/2” or 5/8” orange, red, and brown satin ribbon. You can use curling ribbon instead of satin ribbon.

Step 7. Arrange 'candy flowers' and 'Thanksgiving tag flowers' in two rows. Use wire cutters to make the sticks shorter for the first, low row.

Step 8. Your Thanksgiving candy centerpiece should look good from all sides. To achieve this, insert some chocolate and tag flowers in the back of the arrangement so they face you when you look at the centerpiece from the back.
