Super fun DIY gifts for dad: Delicious Checkers Set
Sometimes it’s not easy to surprise your dad with something special on Father’s Day. I always tried to give my dad something handmade in addition to a purchased gift. So if you need inspiration for DIY gifts for dad, this chocolate checkers set makes an awesome and delicious gift for dad. The checker pieces are super tasty Ferrero Rocher chocolate pieces.
I saw this idea on the Internet and I loved it!
As you can see in the picture, the board is made of European chocolate squares in gold and dark brown wrappers. If you are in Europe you will find these easily but in the US you won’t find these chocolate pieces. Don’t be upset:). You can make the board using Hershey’s candy bars instead (cookies & chocolate version). 8 candy bars were used in this example.
To make this chocolate checkers set, you will need:
Step 1. Download and print out the board template on the 2 pieces of light orange construction paper and 1 sheet of brown paper. The template is for A4 size paper. If you use smaller size paper (for example, letter size), you will need to choose your size of paper in your printer settings.
Step 2.Secure two halves of the board together with a glue stick.
Step 3. Cut out squares from the brown sheet of paper. Attach them to the orange board with a glue stick.
Step 4. Prepare 8 Hershey’s bars.
With each candy bar do the following: fold the top and bottom wrapper flaps to the back of the bar and secure them with scotch tape.
Step 5. To make the base for your chocolate checkers board, take heavyweight card stock or a sheet of cardboard. Cut 23.5 cm (9.25 in) wide x 23 cm (9.05 in) high.
First, place the candy bars on this base just to see how they cover the base. As you can see, there is some space between the rows of candy as the paper base is a little bit bigger than the combined size of the candy bars. With double sided tape secure the candy bars to the base.
Step 6. Wrap the orange-brown paper board around the candy bars.
Your chocolate board is ready.
